Project Manager

SOM is currently seeking a Project Manager to join the leadership team at our Shanghai office. The successful candidate will be motivated by an active engagement in collaborative processes and teamwork environments. They will also possess previous experience with a Western architecture firm and professional work in China as a licensed architect or engineer, with a demonstrated ability to successfully manage all facets of architecture and planning-related projects. Verbal and written fluency in both Mandarin Chinese and English is required.

 

Background and Qualifications:

l          Minimum Master’s degree in architecture, engineering or related field (or equivalent professional experience).

l          5 -10 years of progressively responsible project experience.

l          Work experience with Western architecture firm and/or other overseas professional experience preferred.

l          Proven knowledge of general architecture practices including programming, site planning, civil, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering.

l          Thorough understanding of issues related to architectural design, drafting, detailing, building materials, building codes, construction techniques and costs.

l          Strong analytical, oral and written communication skills with the ability to build quick rapport with all levels of employees, clients, consultants and vendors.

l          Demonstrated capabilities in problem identification, problem solving and conflict resolution.

 

 


Qualified candidates are expected to:

l          Manage projects towards long-term profitability while reconciling the goals and priorities between SOM and its clients.

Senior Urban Planner

SOM is currently seeking a Senior Urban Planner to work in a leading role under the Design Studio Head of the Shanghai office. The successful applicant will be motivated by an active engagement in collaborative processes and teamwork environments; be responsible for carrying out the production of various design work, and help facilitate the overall growth of SOM Shanghai’s Urban Design & Planning group. Experience in large-scale urban design projects at district and regional levels is required, including a high level of proficiency in urban design guidelines, and the ability to guide the documentation of project deliverables to ensure that contract and budget goals are met.

 

Background and Qualifications:

l          Minimum graduate or professional-level degree in urban planning & design.

l          Licensed Urban Planner or equivalent professional accreditation from home country.

l          6-10 years professional experience with an urban planning practice; 4-5 years project experience in China preferred.

l          Expertise in planning-related issues including sustainable environmental planning, analysis and review, redevelopment, mixed use development and public relations.

l          Demonstrated ability to comprehend complex urban planning challenges, as well as specific social, cultural and spatial approaches between the West and East.

l          Demonstrated ability to research, write and present reports and recommendations in a thorough, concise and timely manner.

Chinese Licensed Architect

SOM is currently seeking a Chinese Licensed Architect to work in a leading role under the Design Studio Head of the SOM Shanghai office. The qualified applicant will be responsible for carrying out various facets of design work firmwide, and will be motivated by an active engagement in collaborative processes and teamwork environments. The candidate will also have previous experience with a Western firm, including professional work in China, and demonstrate a proven track record of success in terms of the design and implementation of large-scale projects.

 

Background and Qualifications:

·           Completion of five- or six-year architectural degree program (or graduate of four-year program)

·           5-10 years experience in architectural documentation and design development

·           Demonstrated general knowledge of building materials, detailing, construction techniques, related engineering principles and building codes

·           Ability to translate complex designs into clear, concise details and construction documents

·           Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills

·           Ability to work in a team environment

·           Proficiency in most major industry software applications including MS Office, AutoCAD, R14/2000, Photoshop, PowerPoint, 3D Modeling

Accounting Officer

SOM is currently seeking a responsible, self-motivated team player to fill the role of Accounting Officer for their Shanghai office. Applicants must be detail-oriented and able to work under pressure in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Preferred candidates will hold a bachelor’s degree and/or professional certification in accounting, finance or related field, as well as over five years work experience with a multi-national company. Excellent communication skills in both English and Mandarin are required.  

Duties include but are not limited to:

l          Bookkeeping;

l          Drafting PRC-standard financial statements;

l          Various tax-related tasks (business, corporate and individual income tax filing, etc);

l          Payroll and benefit calculation;

l          Check issuance to vendors, consultants, etc;

Candidates must be detail-oriented, and be able to work under pressure in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. As documents are often very technical, applicants with experience and/or strong familiarity with architecture, design and construction terminologies are preferred. Applicants should hold a Bachelor’s or graduate degree in English or communications-related fields, and have more than three years professional experience as an English Translator (both written & verbal) in a multi-national company. Excellent writing skills in both English and Mandarin are required.

Duties include but are not limited to:

l          Translation and proofreading of letters, memos, regulations, contracts, policies & media from Chinese to English or vice versa.

l          Coordination with other translators and/or translation companies to ensure translation work is completed on time and in accordance with the firm’s quality standards.
